Three suspects from the UK, two men and a woman, were detained for questioning by the Staffordshire police on of conspiracy to defraud, money laundering and possession of malware to use for fraud.
The three suspects used malicous software that was used to block victims computers and demand money (ransomware). The malware demanded £100 to unlock the victims computer and personal files.
Detective Jason Tunn, from the PCeU said,
“The arrests shows we are determined to combat this type of crime. I remind all computer users that police do not use such a method to impose or enforce fines, so if you are confronted by such a page do not enter any of your details. Call police on 101.”
