An Iranian news organization alleges the country successfully avoided yet another attack by the Stuxnet worm, according to reports.
The cyberattack targeted a power plant and other sites again in southern Iran over the fall, the BBC and the Associated Press reported Christmas day.
The original Stuxnet attack, discovered in June 2010, was believed to be the first piece of malware used as a cyber weapon against opposing countries.
It is considered to have been configured to shut down centrifuges at Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment plant, where stoppages and other problems reportedly occurred around that time.
Later, in 2012, it was discovered that the malware was made by the U.S. and Israeli government.
