There’s an exploit discovered in Google’s well-known Chrome browser that will allow hackers to listen into a user’s offline conversation via their computer’s microphone despite the tab being closed.
The exploit is in Chrome’s microphone configurations, if the website is granted authorization to utilize the device’s microphone in Chrome, it can work with a pop-up window in order to keep accessing the microphone as well as recording whilst being concealed in the background. Closing the tab will have no impact on the pop-up window’s capability to listen in.
Authorization is given to any instance of an HTTPS-enabled site that’s permitted to utilize the microphone, hackers only have to run the code within a background window, which won’t tip off any one Chrome’s newly added recording icons.
The researcher that fell upon this posted a demonstration video showing the exploit in action.
