According to a security notice released on its site, Nationwide unveils that the attack was neutralized as a result of their “responsive actions.”
The first part of the investigation revealed that names, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and birth dates “could” have been compromised.
Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company & Affiliated Companies is a group of large U.S.insurance and financial services companies based in Columbus, Ohio. The company also operates regional headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, San Antonio, Texas, Gainesville, Florida, and Lynchburg, Virginia.
In some cases, the cybercriminals could have also obtained information such as marital status, gender, occupation, and the name and address of the victim’s employer.
There’s no evidence to indicate the fact that medical or credit card information has been stolen by the attackers.
Law enforcement authorities have been immediately notified and letters are being sent out to the individuals that might have been affected.
