Gizmodo company twitter account hacked

twitterapplogo2 320x245Gizmodo’s Twitter account was hacked Friday by a group known as Clan VV3. The breach did not last long, but they where capable of sending racist and offensive messages to the account’s 415,000 followers.

The group apparently gained access to the company account by compromising a former employee Mat Honan‘s e-mail and Twitter account.  The group used the companies twitter account to advertise their website and send out offensive comments.  Gizmodo quickly regained control of the account.  Gizmodo’s final message on the subject:

To be clear, a former Gizmodo employee’s Twitter account appears to have been hacked, and that is how those tweets appeared on @Gizmodo.
Apologies to those who saw those tweets. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
