The widely used torrent client, uTorrent, founded by Ludvig Strigeus but later picked up by BitTorrent Inc., has given an alert to its users concerning a security breach of their forum which enabled hackers to steal user details. uTorrent has advised its users to change their passwords asap.
The breach, according to the alert posted by uTorrent, took place on 6th June as soon as the company was informed about the breach by the software provider of the forum, IP.board.
Attackers have acquired details of all uTorrent users though it is uncertain what kind of data has been downloaded. uTorrent’s team feels that all emails and passwords have been taken.
“While the passwords may not be used as a vector on the forums, those hashed passwords should be considered compromised,” uTorrent mentioned.
Though, what we can say for certain is that uTorrent has hundreds of thousands of registered users, roughly 385,000.
If you had an account or used the same password on multiple sites, change your passwords ASAP.
