In an attempt to make piracy sites harder to find, copyright holders are sending dozens of millions of takedown notices to Google every month.
Music industry group BPI is one of the most active senders. Over the past year they have asked Google to remove more than 30 million URLs, and the search engine complied in nearly every case
Recently though, Google refused to take down one link in a DMCA notice containing more than 2,000 allegedly conflicting URLs. The links in question all lead to the homepage of the most infamous file-sharing site on the Internet, The Pirate Bay.
Google concurs that The Pirate Bay homepage is harmless and the search engine has declined to comply with BPI’s petition. Thepiratebay.sx is the only domain in the notice which was left alone.
