Interpol alleged Tuesday that 25 people suspected of being associated with the Anonymous hacking group were apprehended in 4 countries in South America and Europe, with authorities confiscating IT equipment, payment cards and currency.
The apprehensions were brought in across 15 cities in Argentina, Chile, Columbia and Spain, Interpol alleged in a news issue. They traced an investigation known as “Operation Unmask” that commenced in mid-February following cyberattacks addressed at Columbia’s Ministry of Defense and the president’s website, and Chile’s Endesa electrical energy company and its national library.
Authorities searched 40 premises and taken over 250 items including computer gear and cellphones. An investigation carries on into how the supposed hackers’ actions were funded, Interpol aforementioned.
