Recent reports suggest that the FBI now have crawling applications that will monitor all social media sites, such as Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter. This crawler will also monitor open source news sites for news, crises and threats that meet the key words that the FBI is looking for.

When the crawler finds something, it will display an alert visually by geo-locating alerts into geospatial map. All alerts will be color coded in accordance to the FBI defined priorities . In addition, the FBI will also be able to search for key words in all “publicly available” tweets across the Twitter and other social media sites.
